In 2018 I attended an event led by Peter Woodbury, who was associated with the Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) at the time. I had read about Edgar Cayce’s life as a healer and medium and was mildly interested in learning more about him. Peter is a hypnotherapist and was offering past life regression sessions after the workshops, held in his hotel room. It seemed a little sketchy but his talk was intriquing and Peter is an engaging speaker so for a lark my wife and I signed up for individual hypnosis sessions with him. Sue experienced nothing particularly interesting but I had a mind blowing, life altering session! Seemingly in a daydream, I found myself in another time with people dressed in dated clothing arriving by horse and wagon to attend an outdoor event of some kind with people picnicking in a large meadow, groups of men and women chatting and talking, children laughing and playing. As a little time went by it became evident that the event was a public execution, with a little more time I began to understand that I was the one being executed! The whole session was emotional and a little disturbing, vibrant, vivid and very real. I encountered beings that helped explain what was happening, why this scene was being shown to me, it’s importance and meaning in my present life and how I could learn from it. As time went on the meanings became more clear and overall I was amazed at what had happened inside my own head! I became intriqued and began to study past life regression. I read everything I could get my eyes on, including the works of Brian Weiss, Michael Newton, Dr. Bruce Goldberg, Dolores Cannon and Linda Backman. I learned about Dr. Ian Stevenson’s work with over 2,500 cases of children who remembered their past lives and could identify people and places by name that they had never seen before in this life. When I received a flyer from Peter describing his classes teaching past life regression hypnosis in the Brian Weiss method I signed up and flew to Virginia Beach, Virginia to learn the process. I began doing this work with friends and family members, delving into past life lessons and gaining skill in guiding the process. Often times the sessions were powerful and revelatory. The more time I spent with hypnosis the more more comfortable I got with the process, continuing to study the groundbreaking work in hypnosis done by Braid, Mesmer, Esdaile, Bernheim, James and in the modern era Hulle and Erickson.
In hundreds of sessions with clients I’ve developed an understanding and familiarity with the process, developing my skill as a past life regression guide. The work is humbling and astounding at the same time! Adopting the philosophy I learned from Dr. Bruce Goldberg, everything about the work is for the benefit and advancement of the client’s soul. I continue to learn from the modern pioneers in past life regression and from the sessions I lead, my curiosity and fascination is ever expanding.
