Have you ever been touched by an angel? - I have and it was unforgettable.

The interesting part of the whole experience is that the energy I felt was so carnal and yet so divine.

Everyone has milestones in their lives that they recall, some happy and some sad but each experience gives you something…and sometimes the take-away from that moment last for years.

I was 30 years old and was getting married in April – a happy time- and I was the typical bride-to be scoping out dresses, cakes, flowers thinking about all those fun details and how genuinely content I felt moving on to the next chapter in my life.

A month earlier in March was my mother’s birthday and I hoped to take her out and celebrate. Unfortunately, that day never came. My mother passed away on her birthday due to a stroke. I was devastated and bewildered because I never imagined that I when I got married she wouldn’t be right there with me.

After many tears and sleepless nights, a decision needed to be made and after speaking with my fiancé, I decided to move forward with our wedding plans after all. I felt we could all use a reason to feel joy and perhaps distract us from the sorrow of no longer having this fun-loving soul with us on this earth.

Days before the wedding, I needed to take care of last minute details and I had to meet with the caterer. The morning of my appointment, I was so sad and distressed, missing my mom so deeply -I couldn’t get myself motivated that morning- I wasn’t sure how to get through another day without her. I knew I needed to get out of the house and after putting salt in my coffee instead of sugar, I realized the best thing for me was to stay busy so I went to meet the caterer.

When I arrived at the restaurant, they told me to take a seat in the atrium and someone would be with me shortly. As I sat there looking around, I saw all the beautiful hanging plants and immediately I thought of my mom – she loved plants and on a previous occasion I had brought her to this restaurant for Mother’s day. I began thinking coming here was a bad idea and then suddenly someone came up to me. It wasn’t the owner, instead it was mother who told me that Loretta couldn’t make it but if it was okay she would meet with me instead. When I looked up at her, she sensed something was wrong and she sat down next to me. Then something happened, I could feel I was starting to tear up. This woman didn’t know why I was sad, and yes maybe she thought I was just a “stressed out” bride but what happen next was surely divine. She and I had never met and yet it was as though she was an angel sent to comfort me. She touched my hand and looked at me and with the softest voice said to me “Mijita” in Spanish, (my child) - don’t worry, its okay I’m here to help you. – I felt my mother. As she wiped away my tear, at that moment I knew it was my mother’s spirit – her way to reach out to me.

When I left the restaurant, I knew two things for certain… Boy, I had definitely picked the right caterer and second, I had been touched by an angel and lucky for me I was able to recognize her touch.
